Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The doctor was called in to treat me. He took hold of my arm and felt my pulse.

The simple doctor did not know that the pain was deep inside, in my heart.

Some aches are not in the body, and no pulse will show them.
The deeper layer

Some pain lives deep inside, where no pulse can show it.

Vaid is a doctor of the old healing ways. He feels the pulse at the wrist, pakarh dhandholay baanh. But the karak, the ache, sits in the kalejaa, the heart, where his fingers cannot reach. He is bholaa, simple and well-meaning, and he looks in the wrong place.

The next salok answers this one: a good healer first finds where the illness lies.

A Question to Sit With

Is there an ache you carry that a checkup would never find?
