Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The True Guru, the wise first Being, shows you the home inside your own home.
There five sounds ring and ring, and the Word sounds out like a bright banner.
Worlds and lands, the realms below, continents and galaxies all appear there, full of wonder.
Strings and harps play and hum, and the True One sits there on the true throne.
Listen to the music in the heart's home of peace, and lovingly tune in to the One's wide stillness.
Think on the story that cannot be told, and the wants of the mind melt away.
The heart-lotus turns over and fills with sweet nectar. Then this mind does not wander off anywhere.
It never forgets the chant that goes on without words, and it rests in the One who was there before all ages.
All the companions are blessed with five good qualities. Those who turn to the Guru live in their own home, deep within.
Nanak says: I am the servant of whoever searches for the Word and finds this home.
There is a home inside your own heart, and the Guru shows you the way in.
Ghar meh ghar daykhaa-ay day-ay: the True Guru shows the home within the home. Inside, the panch sabad, five sounds, ring like music no hand is playing. Whole worlds open up there, and the True One sits on the true throne.
Akath kathaa beechaaree-ai mansaa maneh samaa-ay: thinking on the story beyond words, the mind's wanting settles. Ajpaa jaap na veesrai: the chant that goes on without words is never forgotten. It is like a song you love that keeps playing softly inside you all day. Sabad khoj ih ghar lahai: whoever searches the Word finds this home.
Have you ever grown quiet enough to notice a stillness that was there all along?
