Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You Yourself are the writing board, and You Yourself are the pen. You are also what is written on it.

Nanak says: speak of the One alone. How could there be any other?

The One is the page, the pen, and every word; there is no second.
The deeper layer

The One is the page, the pen and every word. There is no second.

Aapay patee kalam aap: You are the patee, the wooden writing board children once learned on, and You are the pen. Upar laykh bhe toon: You are the writing too. Ayko kahee-ai naankaa doojaa kaahay koo: speak of the One; why a second? This is the same oneness as Ik Onkar, the One that everything already is.

A Question to Sit With

What changes when you imagine there is nothing standing outside the One?
