Turned Away at the Door

The temple priests have doubts about this, and everyone is furious with me.

Calling me low-caste and untouchable, they beat me and drove me out; what should I do now, O Beloved Father Lord? ||1||

In plain words

The temple keepers are troubled about me, and everyone is angry with me.

Calling me "low-caste, low-caste," they hit me and drove me out. What should I do now, O my dear Father, Beethulaa?

No one can shut you out of the heart of the One.
The deeper layer

Being shut out for who you are is cruel, and the One is still yours to turn to.

Aalaavantee, the temple keepers, were angry. Shouting sood, sood, "low-caste, low-caste," they struck Namdev and drove him out. He turns to baap beethulaa, his beloved Father, a name for the One. No gatekeeper stands between him and the One. Every person has the same dignity, whatever family they are born into.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

What can you do when someone treats you unfairly for who you are?
