Within the body are the five evil and uncontrollable passions. The Lord destroys them in an instant. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Singing about the good chases away the aching, empty feeling inside.

The five big troubling feelings that tug at us are eased in a moment.

Singing about the good fills the empty, aching feeling and eases the big feelings that tug at you.
The deeper layer

The verse promises that singing the Praises destroys "poverty and pain" — the inner poverty, the aching emptiness — and that "the five evil and uncontrollable passions" (the panch, the five tugging feelings) are eased "in an instant." Remembrance fills the emptiness and calms the tug-of-war inside. For a child: singing about the good fills the empty, aching feeling and eases the five big feelings that tug at you.

A Question to Sit With

What fills you up inside when you're feeling empty or restless?
