Love for the Good Wells Up Like a Gift

poorab janam parchoon kamaa-ay har har har naam pi-aaray.
Because of actions committed in past lives, one comes to love the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
gur parsaad amrit ras paa-i-aa ras gaavai ras veechaaray. ||7||
By Guru's Grace, you shall obtain the ambrosial essence; sing of this essence, and reflect upon this essence. ||7||

In plain words

A love for the good can well up in you, quietly, like a gift.

By kindness you taste its sweetness — so savor it and turn it over in your heart.

Love for the good can well up in you like a gift — so savor it and keep it close.
The deeper layer

This one says: love for the good can well up in you like a gift.

The verse says that because of what was done in earlier lives, "one comes to love the Name." Love for the good is not something you can force. It arrives, like a present you didn't expect.

Then what do you do with it? Ras gaavai ras veechaaray — "sing of this sweetness, and think about this sweetness." Ras means the sweet taste of something. Think of your favourite fruit. You don't gulp it down. You enjoy every bite. Savour the good the same way, and keep it close.

A Question to Sit With

When has a love for something good welled up in you, almost on its own?
