Verse 7 of 9
After Searching Outside, the Good Was Inside All Along
garaam garaam nagar sabh firi-aa rid antar har jan bhaaray.
From village to village, throughout all the cities I wandered; and then, inspired by the Lord's humble servants, I found Him deep within the nucleus of my heart.
sarDhaa sarDhaa upaa-ay milaa-ay mo ka-o har gur gur nistaaray. ||6||
Faith and longing have welled up within me, and I have been blended with the Lord; the Guru, the Guru, has saved me. ||6||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I wandered from place to place searching — and then found the good deep inside my own heart.
Trust and longing welled up, and I was joined to the good at last.
After searching everywhere outside, you may find the good was deep inside your own heart all along.
The verse gives the inward turn as a journey: "from village to village I wandered... and then, inspired by the humble, I found Him deep within my own heart." After searching everywhere outside (like the musk-deer), the good was found within. For a child: after searching everywhere outside, you may find the good was deep inside your own heart all along.
