Love That Comes Anyway

ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਭੋਂਡੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
kahi-o na boojhai anDh na soojhai bhoNdee kaar kamaa-ee.
He does not understand what he is told; he is blind - he does not see, and so he does his evil deeds.
ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰੁ ਕਰਮੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
aapay pareet paraym parmaysur karmee milai vadaa-ee. ||2||
The Transcendent Lord Himself showers His Love and Affection; by His Grace, He bestows glorious greatness. ||2||

In plain words

He does not understand what he is told. He is blind and cannot see, and so he does wrong things.

The Highest One gives love and care all on His own. By that grace, greatness is given.

The One's love does not wait for you to deserve it; it just comes.
The deeper layer

The One's love comes even before you have figured things out.

kahi-o na boojhai anDh na soojhai — he does not understand what he is told, and he cannot see clearly. So he ends up doing bad things. This is someone stumbling in the dark, and the verse does not pile harsh judgment on him.

Then comes the turn. aapay pareet paraym parmaysur — the Highest One pours out love and care. karmee milai vadaa-ee — by karmee, by grace, greatness is given.

Think of a baby learning to walk. It falls over again and again. Its parents do not wait for perfect steps before they love it. They love it right now. Love and greatness come as a gift, not as a reward for being good enough.

A Question to Sit With

Has someone ever loved you even when you did not feel you deserved it?
