True intuitive peace and poise rest in the Naam. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Songs and music, fun and clever tricks;

joy and play, and the power to give orders;

fine clothes and good food: none of these finds a home in my mind.

True, easy, natural peace rests in the Naam.

Fun things are fine, but the peace that lasts lives somewhere deeper.
The deeper layer

Pleasures come and go; the peace that lasts lives in the Naam.

Geet naad harakh chaturaa-ee, rahas rang furmaa-is kaa-ee, painHan khaanaa cheet na paa-ee: songs, sounds, pleasures, cleverness, joy, the power to command, fine clothes and food, none of these rests in the consciousness. Saach sahj sukh naam vasaa-ee, true intuitive peace, sahaj, dwells in the Name. The verse does not condemn pleasures; it notices they do not satisfy at the root, while the peace that lasts lives somewhere deeper.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference between fun that fades and happiness that stays?
