It All Flows From Love

ਜੋਗ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਆਨੰਦਾ ॥
jog binod savaad aanandaa.
Yoga, thrills, delicious flavors and ecstasy;
ਮਤਿ ਸਤ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ॥
mat sat bhaa-ay bhagat gobindaa.
wisdom, truth and love all come from devotion to the Lord of the Universe.
ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਰ ਨਿਜ ਸੰਦਾ ॥
keerat karam kaar nij sandaa.
My own occupation is to work to praise the Lord.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਤੌ ਰਾਜ ਰਵਿੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
antar ravtou raaj ravindaa. ||2||
Deep within, I dwell on the Lord of the sun and the moon. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Yoga, fun, tasty flavors and joy, wisdom, truth and love: all of them come from loving devotion to Gobind, the Lord of the Universe.

My own work is to praise the One.

Deep inside, I dwell on the Lord of the sun and the moon.

All the good things you chase flow from one spring: love.
The deeper layer

Every good thing people chase flows from one spring: loving devotion to the One.

Jog binod savaad aanandaa, mat sat bhaa-ay bhagat gobindaa: yoga, delights, flavors, ecstasy, wisdom, truth, all come from loving devotion (bhagat) to the Lord of the Universe. Keerat karam kaar nij sandaa, my own true work is to praise; antar ravtou raaj ravindaa, deep within I dwell on the Lord of sun and moon. The good things people chase separately are shown to flow from a single spring: love.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you think lasting happiness comes from?
