The Beloved Enshrined in the Heart

ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

My Husband Lord, the Lord of the World, is the Master of the meek and the poor.

In plain words

With love, I hold the love of my Beloved close in my heart.

My Beloved, the Lord of the World, cares for the meek and the poor.

Day and night, the Naam is my giving and my fasting.

Thinking on what is most true, the waves inside me have calmed.

Keeping the One in your heart can be its own kind of giving and its own quiet peace.
The deeper layer

Hold the Beloved in your heart, and the Naam becomes your giving, your fasting and your calm.

Pari-o pari-o preet praym ur dhaaree: I have enshrined the love of my Beloved in my heart. Deenaa naath pee-o banvaaree, my Beloved is the protector of the meek and poor, the One who cares for the lowly. An-din naam daan bratkaaree, night and day the Name is my charity and my fasting, the inner life quietly taking the place of outer ritual. Taripat tarang tat beechaaree, the waves subside as one contemplates the essence, an image of contentment settling the restless heart.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you carry in your heart that calms you down?
