Sikhism·Raag Prabhaatee·Raag Parbhaatee, Shabad 14
Verse 5 of 6

How Could I Speak the Unspeakable?

ਅਕਥੌ ਕਥਉ ਕਿਆ ਮੈ ਜੋਰੁ ॥
akthou katha-o ki-aa mai jor.
What power do I have to speak the Unspoken?
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਕਰਾਇਹਿ ਮੋਰ ॥
bhagat karee karaa-ihi mor.
I worship You with devotion; You inspire me to do so.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੈ ਮੋਰ ॥
antar vasai chookai mai mor.
You dwell deep within; my egotism is dispelled.
ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰੁ ॥੪॥
kis sayvee doojaa nahee hor. ||4||
So whom should I serve? There is no other than You. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

What power do I have to speak of the One beyond all words?

I worship You with love, and it is You who move me to do it.

You live deep inside me, and my "I" and "mine" melt away.

So whom else would I serve? There is no one but You.

When you feel the One inside you, the loud me, me, me quietly melts.
The deeper layer

When the One lives inside you, the "I" and "mine" melt away.

Akthou katha-o ki-aa mai jor: what power do I have to speak the Unspoken? Bhagat karee karaa-ihi mor, my devotion is You inspiring it. Antar vasai chookai mai mor, You dwell within, and the mai and mor, the "I" and "mine" of ego, are dispelled. Kis sayvee doojaa nahee hor, whom else would I serve? there is no other. This is haumai, the illusion of a separate self, dissolving in the warmth of devotion.

A Question to Sit With

When do you forget about yourself completely, and how does that feel?
