Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My One is dyed in the deepest, most beautiful color.

Kind to the poor and the small, my Beloved wins my heart. My Beloved is so very sweet, soaked in the deep red of love.

The One is dyed in a beauty so deep that hearts cannot help turning toward it.
The deeper layer

The One is dyed in the deepest, loveliest color of love, gentle with the small, and so sweet that hearts turn toward the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Mayraa parabh raaNg ghanou at roorhou means my Lord is dyed in the deepest, most beautiful color.

Deen da-i-aal means kind to the small and struggling. Pareetam manmohan means the Beloved who wins the heart. At ras laal sagoorhou means very sweet and soaked in deep red.

This shabad belongs to Raag Prabhaatee, the dawn raag, the music for early morning. So the deep red is like the sky at sunrise. When the sun comes up, you do not have to be told to look. Your eyes just turn toward it. The One is so beautiful and so tender that hearts turn toward the One on their own.

A Question to Sit With

What color would you paint a feeling of deep love or wonder?
