In plain words

Your Naam is the jewel, and Your grace is the light. Where there is awareness, there is Your light.

Darkness spreads through the dark, and then everything is lost.

The treasure is already inside you; grace is the light that lets you find it.
The deeper layer

The Naam is a jewel inside you, and grace is the light that lets you see it.

The pauri pairs two images: naam ratan (the Naam as a jewel hidden within) and karam chaanan (grace as light). Here karam is the Persian word for generosity and grace, separate from the Sanskrit karma of deeds. The jewel is already inside; grace is what lights it up so you can find it. Surat is awareness, and wherever awareness wakes up, the light is already there. The doubling in andhayr andhee (darkness within darkness) pictures how forgetting piles on itself, thickening until everything is lost. The way back is to turn toward the light that never left.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel lost in the dark, what helps you turn back toward the light?
