Both the singer and the listener are liberated, when, as Gurmukh, they drink in the Lord's Name, even for an instant. ||1||

In plain words

For one moment, the Lord showered me with kindness, and I sing the One's praises with joy upon joy.

The one who sings and the one who listens are both set free, when, facing the Guru, they drink in the Naam of the One, even for a moment.

The Naam frees the one who sings it and the one who hears it alike.
The deeper layer

Singing about the One frees the singer and the listener alike.

The verse says gaavat sunat do-oo bha-ay muktay: the one singing and the one hearing are both set free. Think of a song at a family gathering. It lifts the person singing. It also lifts everyone listening.

The Naam works like that. It frees whoever gives it voice and whoever takes it in. And it can happen in a khin, a single instant.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt lifted just by listening to someone else sing or speak from the heart?
