Sikhism·Raag Prabhaatee·Raag Parbhaatee, Shabad 37
Verse 3 of 5

Nothing left to trip over

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
man tan vasi-aa har parabh so-ee.
That Lord God abides within my mind and body.
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
kal kalays kichh bighan na ho-ee.
There are no conflicts, pains or obstacles.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
sadaa sadaa parabh jee-a kai sang.
Forever and ever, God is with my soul.
ਉਤਰੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
utree mail naam kai rang. ||2||
Filth and pollution are washed away by the Love of the Name. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

That same One lives in my mind and my body, at home there.

No fights, no pains, no stumbling-blocks are left to trip me up.

Forever and ever, the One is with my soul.

The dirt inside me has washed away in the love of the Naam.

When you feel at home inside, a lot of what used to trip you up simply melts away.
The deeper layer

When the One is at home inside you, life gets lighter and the old dirt washes away.

Man tan vasi-aa har parabh so-ee means that same One lives in my mind and body. The One is not far away. The One is at home inside.

Then kal kalays kichh bighan na ho-ee: there are no fights, no pains, no bighan, which means stumbling blocks. When you feel at home inside, a lot of what used to trip you up melts away.

Sadaa sadaa parabh jee-a kai sang means the One is with my soul forever and ever.

Last, utree mail naam kai rang. The mail, the dirt inside, comes off in the rang of the Naam. Rang means color, and also love. This cleaning happens through love, not hard scrubbing. Think of a stain that slips away in warm water.

A Question to Sit With

What is one stumbling-block in your life that might shrink if you felt more at peace inside?
