Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When the mind's cleverness is false, what it does stirs up pointless fights.
The false are full of ego, and they never get the sweet taste of the Master.
Without the Naam, everything else they do tastes flat.
Keeping company with enemies, they are robbed and ruined; their words are like poison, and their lives go to waste.
Without the Naam, life tastes flat, no matter how much you pile up.
jhoothee man kee mat hai — the mind's own cleverness can be false. karnee baad bibaad — it leads to baad bibaad, pointless arguments.
jhoothay vich ahankaran hai — the false are full of ahankaran, ego. khasam na paavai saad — so they miss the saad, the true taste, of the Master.
bin naavai hor kamaavanaa fikaa aavai saad — without the Naam, everything else we do tastes fikaa, flat.
Think of food with no salt. You can pile your plate high, and it still tastes like nothing. The last line is a strong warning about bad company and bitter words. And a truer flavor is always there to be found.
Have you ever gotten something you wanted and found it didn't taste as good as you expected?
