Clever tricks that vanish

False are the clever tricks of the evil-minded.

They shall disappear in no time at all. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

The clever tricks of a twisted mind are false.

They vanish in no time at all.

Clever tricks look solid for a moment, then vanish, because they never were.
The deeper layer

Clever tricks do not last, because there was never anything true in them.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It says jhoothee durmat kee chaturaa-ee: the cleverness of durmat is false. Durmat means a mind that has lost its way.

Then binsat baar na laagai kaa-ee: it vanishes in no time. Think of a soap bubble. It shines with colors and looks solid. Then, pop, it is gone. The false is like that: it looks real but does not last. Only the true lasts.

A Question to Sit With

Have you seen something clever fall apart quickly because there was nothing real underneath?
