True is devotional worship, and True is the Temple of the Lord; True is His Manifest Glory. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, soak up the Shabad, the Guru's Word, until it colors you through and through, the way dye soaks into cloth.

True is loving devotion. True is the Temple of the One. And true is the glory that shines out from it.

Let the words color you all the way through — the temple within is true.
The deeper layer

When your mind takes on the color of the Guru's Word, your devotion, your inner temple and the light it gives off are all true and lasting.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Sabad rapai rang: dyed in the color of the Word. Sach, true, rings three times: the devotion, the Temple and its glory are true, like a color that stays through every wash.

A Question to Sit With

What words, songs, or ideas have colored the way you see everything?
