O Mullah, teacher of the mosque, tell me: is this the One's justice?
The doubt in your mind has not gone away.
An honest question about fairness stays open as long as doubt fills the mind.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad, the idea the rest turns around.
Kabir speaks to a Mullah, a Muslim teacher of religion. Mulaa kahhu ni-aa-o khudaa-ee — tell me, is this the One's fairness? But the question reaches far past one person. It is for any teacher, in any faith, our own included.
Tayray man kaa bharam na jaa-ee — the doubt in your mind has not gone away. Kabir does not hand over a neat answer. He wants us to sit with the question.
It is like a coach who asks, "Was that fair play?" and then waits while the team thinks.
What is a rule you follow that you have never asked why about?
