Softening the Hard Heart

You are impure; you do not understand the Pure Lord. You do not know His Mystery.

In plain words

You are not pure, so you cannot see the Pure One. You do not know the One's mystery.

Kabir says: you have missed out on paradise; your mind has settled on a place of suffering.

A hard heart stays cloudy — but the peace you long for arrives the moment it softens.
The deeper layer

A hard, closed heart cannot see the pure One, and it drifts away from peace.

Too naapaak paak nahee soojhi-aa — you are not clean, so you cannot see the Pure One. Naapaak means not clean. Paak means pure. Kabir means the heart, not the body. A closed heart stays cloudy, like a window fogged up on a cold morning.

The last line is strong. Kabir says such a person has missed bhisat, paradise. Their mind has settled on dojak, a place of suffering. He is showing where a hard heart leads: far away from peace.

But fog on a window clears when the sun comes out. The peace the heart longs for is not locked away. It is right there the moment the heart softens.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small thing that softens your heart when it has gone hard?
