A Lamp Lit Inside

With the oil of knowledge about the essence of reality, and the wick of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, this lamp illluminates my body.

I have applied the Light of the Lord of the Universe, and lit this lamp. God the Knower knows. ||2||

In plain words

With the oil of knowing the deepest truth, and the wick of the Naam, this lamp lights up my body.

I have lit it with the light of the Lord of the Universe. The One who knows, knows.

The truest worship is a lamp lit inside you — understanding as the oil, the Naam as the wick.
The deeper layer

The brightest lamp is the one lit inside you.

In an aartee, people wave a brass lamp. Kabir lights a lamp inside his own body instead. Tat, knowing the deepest truth, is the oil. The Naam is the wick. The light of jagdees, the Lord of the world, is the flame.

Think of a phone screen that glows from inside, not from a lamp shining on it. That is this lamp.

The ceremony is not thrown away. It is moved inside. Boojhai boojhanhaaraa — the One who knows all hearts sees this little flame burning.

A Question to Sit With

What keeps your own inner light burning?
