Visions of corruption, vice and evil-mindedness run away. Such is the spiritual wisdom of God. ||2||

In plain words

The five running thieves inside — wanting, anger, greed, clinging and pride — are caught and held, and the mind's pride is gone.

Wrong ways of looking and muddled thinking run away. Such is the wisdom of the One.

Wisdom quiets the inner troublemakers instead of feeding them.
The deeper layer

Wisdom from the One catches and calms the thieves inside you.

Panch taskar Dhaavat raakhay: the five running thieves are caught and held. The five are wanting, anger, greed, clinging, and pride. They are called thieves because they steal our peace. Chookaa man abhimaan: the mind's pride settles down.

Disat bikaaree durmat bhaagee: the greedy gaze and muddled thinking run away. Aisaa barahm gi-aan: that is what wisdom from the One does. Gurbani sees ego as an illness to heal. Think of a noisy classroom. When a calm, kind teacher walks in, the shouting settles. Wisdom quiets these five pulls instead of feeding them.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you calm down when anger or wanting takes over?
