Bless me with the milk of good karma, and the clarified butter, the ghee, of compassion. Such are the gifts I beg of You, Lord. ||3||

In plain words

Give me the rice of truth and self-control, the wheat of kindness, and the leaf-plate of meditation.

Give me the milk of good deeds and the ghee of contentment. These are the gifts I ask of You.

The food that nourishes you most is made of truth, kindness, and contentment.
The deeper layer

Truth, kindness and contentment are the food that feeds a person.

The verse turns good qualities into a meal. Jat sat chaaval: self-control and truth are the rice. Da-i-aa kanak: kindness is the wheat. Paatee Dhaan: meditation is the leaf-plate it is served on. DooDh karam: good deeds are the milk. Santokh ghee-o: contentment is the ghee, the rich butter.

This takes the picture of a meal offered in worship and makes it an offering of the heart. Sharing food is honored here. What nourishes us most is truth, kindness and contentment. It is like a lunchbox packed by someone who loves you. What fills you up is more than the food.

A Question to Sit With

If good qualities were foods, which one do you most want more of?
