Verse 6 of 9

Safe in the Shelter of the Devoted

ਭਗਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਜੋ ਆਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਨ ਹਾਰਨਾ ॥੫॥
bhagat saran jo aavai paraanee tis eehaa oohaa na haarnaa. ||5||
That mortal who enters the Sanctuary of the devotees, does not lose out, here or hereafter. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever comes into the shelter of the devotees

does not lose out, not in this life, and not beyond it.

Come close to the devoted and you will not walk away empty.
The deeper layer

Coming close to those devoted to the One keeps you safe, here and beyond.

Bhagat saran jo aavai means whoever comes into the shelter of the bhagats. A bhagat is someone devoted to the One with love. Eehaa oohaa na haarnaa means that person does not lose out, here or beyond.

Being close to the devoted is itself a kind of safety. It is like sitting close to friends around a campfire on a cold night. Their warmth keeps you warm too.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel like you belong?
