anik baar kot jan oopar naanak vanjai vaarnaa. ||8||5||
So many millions of times, Nanak is a sacrifice to Your humble servants. ||8||5||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Nanak says: over and over, millions of times, I give myself for Your humble servants.
Some of the greatest gifts in a life are the good-hearted people in it.
A heart full of thanks for the humble servants of the One gives itself again and again.
Anik baar kot jan oopar means many, many times, millions of times, over the One's humble servants. Naanak vanjai vaarnaa means Nanak gladly gives himself for them.
To "give yourself" here means glad, loving thanks. It is like wanting to give everything you have to a teacher who changed your life.
The song does not end with what the singer has done. It ends with thanks for the One's humble servants.
A Question to Sit With
Who are the good-hearted people you are most thankful for?
