Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Guru is the Highest One, the Giver of peace.

The Guru plants the Naam of the Supreme One deep inside me, where it holds.

And in the end, the Guru is my help and my friend.

What is planted deep in you now is the friend that stays to the very end.
The deeper layer

My Guru gives peace, plants the Naam, and stays to the end. Parmaysar sukh-daa-ee: the Guru as the very Giver of peace. Drirh-aa-ay means to plant firmly, to fix so it holds. Antay ho-ay sakhaa-ee — the companion at the end, when possessions and status have all slipped away and only the Name remains.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre the whole Ashtapadee turns around.

A Question to Sit With

What have you learned so deeply that it feels like a part of you?
