Verse 14 of 22

The One Behind Every Good Practice

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਸੁਚਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਈ ॥੧੩॥
jap tap sanjam such hai so-ee aapay karay karaa-ee. ||13||
He is chanting, intense meditation, austere self-discipline and purification. He Himself acts, and causes us to act. ||13||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The quiet chanting, the deep meditation, the careful self-discipline, the keeping pure: the One is all of these.

The One acts, and moves us to act.

The good you practice is already alive with the One inside it.
The deeper layer

Jap, tap, sanjam, such — chanting, deep meditation, self-discipline, purity — are named not to dismiss them but to locate their true source: aapay karay karaa-ee, the One both acts and moves us to act. The practices are real; their life comes from the One already within them.

A Question to Sit With

What is a good habit that feels bigger than just you doing it?
