A Lamp Lit in Dark Times

ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੰਭਉ ਕਲਿ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਾਈ ॥੧੮॥
akaal moorat ajoonee sambha-o kal anDhkaar deepaa-ee. ||18||
Being of Immortal Manifestation, He is not born; He is self-existent; He is the Light in the darkness of Kali Yuga. ||18||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One never dies, was never born, and comes from nothing outside itself.

It is a lamp lit and shining, even in the darkest of times.

The deathless, unborn One is a lamp shining in the darkest times.
The deeper layer

Akaal moorat (beyond death), ajoonee (unborn), sambha-o (self-existent): these are the Mool Mantar's own words, the opening creed of Sikhi, folded right into the middle of the song. Kal andhkaar deepaa-ee: a lamp in the darkness of the age.

A Question to Sit With

What is a small light you can keep shining even on a dark day?
