The Gift of Loving

bhagat daan bhagtaa ka-o deenaa har naanak jaachai maa-ee. ||21||1||6||
He blesses His devotees with the Gift of devotional worship; Nanak longs for the Lord, O my mother. ||21||1||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

To those who love the One, the One gives the gift of loving devotion.

Nanak says: O my mother, it is the One I long for.

Devotion is the gift the One gives to those who love.
The deeper layer

Bhagat daan bhagtaa ka-o deenaa: the gift given to the devoted is devotion itself. Love is not a payment we make to earn something; it is already a gift we are given. Jaachai: asking with open, empty hands, like one who receives rather than earns.

A Question to Sit With

What is the best gift you have ever been given that let you give to others?
