The Knots Come Undone

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
banDhan torh charan kamal drirh-aa-ay ayk sabad liv laa-ee. ||5||
Shattering the bonds, the Guru implants the Lord's lotus feet within, and lovingly attunes us to the One Word of the Shabad. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Guru breaks the chains that held me.

The Guru plants the One's lotus feet, the One's loving presence, firmly in my heart, like deep roots.

And the Guru tunes my love to one thing: the One Word, the Shabad.

When the Guru breaks the chains, love settles on the One Word.
The deeper layer

Bandhan torh, breaking the bonds, names the habits and fears that tie us. Charan kamal (lotus feet) is the felt presence of the divine, close and gentle. Ayk sabad liv laa-ee: love attuned to the one Word, the Shabad, in which the whole teaching is held.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you would want your attention to always come back to?
