Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 101
Verse 8 of 22

The Restless Wandering Ends

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਹਸਾ ਚੂਕਾ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਕਤਹੁ ਨ ਧਾਈ ॥੭॥
janam maran kaa sahsaa chookaa baahurh katahu na Dhaa-ee. ||7||
The fear of birth and death is taken away; I shall never wander again. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The fear of being born and of dying is taken away.

I will never again wander, restless, searching everywhere.

When the fear of birth and death lifts, the restless wandering ends.
The deeper layer

Janam maran kaa sahsaa is the anxious dread that hangs around birth and death, the worry that keeps a person running and searching. Baahurh katahu na dhaa-ee: no more running off in every direction. The wandering ends because a resting place has been found.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel like you can finally stop and rest?
