He has blessed His slave with the profit of the Lord's Name; all my thirst is quenched, O Saints. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The True Guru has approved my cargo, O saints.

The Guru has given me, the Guru's servant, the profit of the One's Naam.

And all my thirst is quenched, O saints.

The one cargo worth bringing home is the Naam.
The deeper layer

Life is a trading voyage, and the question is what you bring home. Khayp is a merchant's cargo; laahaa is the profit. The True Guru approves the load and hands over the one gain worth having, the Naam, so that saglee trisan (every thirst) is stilled.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the hymn. Guru Arjan often speaks of life in the language of trade.

A Question to Sit With

What is the most valuable thing you hope to carry through your life?
