Verse 6 of 10

Singing Until Joy Overflows

gun gaavat gaavat bha-ay nihaalaa har simrat taripat aghaa-ee santahu. ||4||
Singing, singing His Glorious Praises, I am enraptured; meditating in remembrance on the Lord, I am satisfied and fulfilled, O Saints. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Singing the One's goodness, over and over, joy overflows in me.

Holding the One in mind, I am satisfied and full, O saints.

Keep singing what is good, and joy overflows on its own.
The deeper layer

Gun gaavat gaavat — singing the virtues, and the doubling of the word carries the sense of going on and on until nihaalaa, overflowing delight, breaks through. Har simrat tripat aghaa-ee: remembrance brings the same deep fullness the earlier verses named. Praise here is not duty but overflow.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you could happily do again and again?
