Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 103
Verse 3 of 9

The Same One Who Frees You

jis tay laagay tineh nivaaray parabh jee-o apnee kirpaa Dhaaree. ||2||
He has rid me of what was clinging to me; my Dear Lord God has blessed me with His Grace. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One has freed me from whatever was clinging to me.

My dear One has blessed me with grace.

The freeing was a kindness poured out, not a prize won.
The deeper layer

Jis tay laagay tineh nivaaray — the same One from whom the entanglement came is the One who removes it. This is a subtle, mature line: it does not blame the self for being stuck, and it does not credit the self for getting free. Apnee kirpaa dhaaree — grace poured out, received rather than earned.

A Question to Sit With

When has help arrived that you could not have given yourself?
