Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Rise early every day and, with the saints, sing the sweet, ringing music of the Word that plays without being struck.
Every wrong and every pain is wiped away when you repeat the Naam of the One, as the Guru teaches.
Take the Naam, drink its nectar, and worship the One night and day.
All the good of yoga, of giving and of many rituals comes from holding on to the One's lotus feet.
Loving devotion to the kind and enchanting One takes away all pain.
Nanak prays: remember your Master, the One, and cross over the world-ocean.
Nit uth gaa-ee-ai — rising early to sing; the practice of amrit vela, the quiet hours before dawn. Devotion holds "all the merits of yoga, charity and ritual" (jog daan anayk kiri-aa): inner love fulfills what outward practices reach for. Bhavjal is the ocean of the world, crossed not by effort alone but by the steadying of the heart on the Name.
What is a small daily practice that leaves you feeling steadier?
