Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In the cold season, in the months of Maghar and Poh, the One appears.
My burning was put out when I saw the One, and the tricks of Maya, the pull of the world, are gone.
Every wish was fulfilled, meeting the One face to face; I am the One's servant, serving at the One's feet.
My necklaces, my hair-ties and every jewel I wear are singing the goodness of the unseen, mysterious One.
I long to love the Lord of the world, and so death cannot even look my way.
Nanak prays: the One has joined me to the One's own self; never again will I be parted from my Beloved.
Sisee-ar rut — the cool winter season; here the Beloved finally appears (pargatay). The soul-bride's finest ornaments (haar dor seegaar) turn out to be the praise of the One, not outward finery. Jam na saakai johi — even death "cannot catch sight of" the one absorbed in love, and the fear of death melts away. Na praym bichhoh — no more separation from the Beloved: the reunion the whole Ruti has moved toward.
What makes a person beautiful in a way that has nothing to do with looks?
