O Nanak, that sermon alone is pleasing to You, Lord, which inspires us to take the Support of the Name. ||1||

In plain words

Put your effort toward the One who is beyond reach and beyond knowing, and bow humbly at the One's lotus feet.

Nanak says: the teaching that pleases You, my One, is the one that helps us lean on the Naam.

Some things are worth reaching for even though you cannot fully hold them.
The deeper layer

Keep reaching for the One, even though you can never fully hold the One.

This is a salok, a short verse. Udam means effort. Agam means out of reach, and agochar means beyond what our senses can pick up. So the verse says: put your effort toward the One who is out of reach. And bow at the One's feet with a humble heart.

Why try for something you can never fully grasp? Think of a runner who keeps trying to beat their best time. There is always a faster time out there. But every run makes them stronger. The effort matters, even though the goal is bigger than us.

The second line is about words. The words that please the One are the ones that lead people to lean on the Name. So the best words are measured by one thing. Do they wake up love?

A Question to Sit With

What is something wonderful you will keep reaching toward, even unfinished?
