Seek the Sanctuary of the Saints, O friends; meditate in remembrance on your infinite Lord and Master.
ਸੂਕੇ ਤੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਥੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੨॥
sookay tay hari-aa thee-aa naanak jap bhagvant. ||2||
The dried branch shall blossom forth in its greenery again, O Nanak, meditating on the Lord God. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Take shelter with the saints, my friends, and remember your endless Master.
Nanak says: remembering the One, the dried-up branch turns green again.
Remember the One, and even a dried-up heart turns green again.
Sookay tay hari-aa — "from dry to green," one of Gurbani's most hopeful images: a withered branch bursting back into leaf. A heart that has gone dry comes alive again in the shelter of the saints (sant saran), remembering the One.
A Question to Sit With
When have you felt something come back to life after seeming used up?
