In plain words

The Guru's Word is sweet as nectar, and the Naam of the One is nectar too.

Remember the One in your mind, your body and your heart, and sing the One's goodness all day and all night.

Listen to this teaching, Sikhs of the Guru: this is what a life is for.

This precious human life bears fruit when you hold love for the One in your heart.

Deep peace, easy calm and great joy come as you remember the One, and sorrow goes away.

Nanak says: as you repeat the Naam, peace wells up, and you find your place in the One's Court.

A precious life bears fruit when love for the One fills it.
The deeper layer

A human life is a treasure (janam padaarath), and it bears fruit when love for the One lives in the heart. The Guru's Word tastes like nectar (amrit), and taking it in day and night is named the true purpose of life (sachaa ihai su-aa-o). Peace and joy well up from within, and sorrow is dispelled. The Court (dargeh) is a picture of belonging: a place of honour with the One.

A Question to Sit With

If a whole life is for something, what do you think yours is for?
