Drunkards, thieves, and evil-doers - I constantly dwell with them. ||3||

In plain words

The home where the saints talk about the One, I have not stepped inside, not even for a moment.

Instead I always stay with people lost in drink, with thieves and troublemakers.

The people you spend time with slowly shape the person you become.
The deeper layer

The people around us shape us.

Kabir speaks here as if he were any one of us. Jih ghar kathaa hot har santan — the home where holy people talk about the One. He says he has not stopped in there, not even for a moment. That kind of gathering is the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One. Instead, he says, he has always stayed with people who pull him the wrong way.

Think about the friends you sit with at lunch. Over a year, you start to talk like them and laugh at the same things. The people we spend time with slowly shape who we become.

There is no looking down on anyone here. It is only an honest look at who is shaping us.

A Question to Sit With

How do the people around you change the way you act?
