In plain words

The One is kind to the small and the struggling, gentle and generous, loving toward those who love, and takes fear away.

Kabir says: Please keep me, Your humble servant, safe from trouble. O One, I serve only You.

The One is kind to the small and takes fear away.
The deeper layer

Honesty comes first, and then mercy.

After his honest look inside, Kabir does not stay stuck. He turns to the One and names what the One is like. Deen da-i-aal means kind to the humble and the struggling. Bhagat bachhal means loving those who love the One. Bhai haaree means the One who takes fear away.

Then he asks simply: keep me safe, and I will serve only You.

It is like a child who owns up to a mistake and then runs to a parent for a hug. Being honest comes first. Then comes the kindness. That is the whole path of this shabad, from honesty to mercy.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you turn when you need to feel safe and steady?
