No More Fear of Time

ਪਵਨਪਤਿ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਖਰਾ ॥
pavanpat unman rahan kharaa.
The mind, the master of the breath, abides in the state of supreme bliss.
ਨਹੀ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nahee mirat na janam jaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
There is no death, no re-birth, and no aging for me now. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My mind, the master of my breath, rests in the highest joy.

Now there is no death for me, no being born again, and no growing old.

Deep inner steadiness quietly loosens the fear of time passing.
The deeper layer

A settled mind lets go of the fear of time.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Here the mind is called pavanpat, the master of the breath. It rests in unman, a deep, steady joy.

Nahee mirat na janam jaraa — no death, no birth, no growing old. From that settled place, the worries tied to time lose their grip. Growing older, things ending, not knowing what comes next.

Think of a lake on a windy day. The top is choppy, but deep down the water stays still. A heart rooted in the One is like that deep water.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel calm about things changing?
