Meeting the One Without Fear

ਉਲਟੀ ਲੇ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਹਾਰੰ ॥
ultee lay sakat sahaaraN.
Turning away from materialism, I have found intuitive support.
ਪੈਸੀਲੇ ਗਗਨ ਮਝਾਰੰ ॥
paiseelay gagan majhaaraN.
I have entered into the sky of the mind, and opened the Tenth Gate.
ਬੇਧੀਅਲੇ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਭੁਅੰਗਾ ॥

The chakras of the coiled Kundalini energy have been opened,
ਭੇਟੀਅਲੇ ਰਾਇ ਨਿਸੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
bhaytee-alay raa-ay nisangaa. ||2||
and I have met my Sovereign Lord King without fear. ||2||

In plain words

Turning away from chasing things, I found steady support inside.

I entered the wide sky of the mind and opened the Tenth Gate, the door of inner seeing.

The coiled energy deep within me opened up,

and I met my King without any fear.

Turning your attention inward can lead you, unafraid, to what you were seeking.
The deeper layer

Turning inward leads to a fearless meeting with the One.

Kabir loves "upside-down" sayings, called ulat-baasee. They are full of wonder, a bit like riddles. This verse uses pictures from yoga. It speaks of rising into the "sky" of the mind and opening the Tenth Gate, a door of inner seeing. It speaks of coiled energy inside waking up.

The key word is ultee, turned around. Kabir turned his attention away from chasing things outside. He turned it inward and upward.

Bhaytee-alay raa-ay nisangaa — I met my King without fear. Nisangaa means fearless, with no doubt at all. It is like closing all the busy tabs on a screen, and there is the one thing you were looking for.

A Question to Sit With

What have you found when you got quiet and looked inward instead of outward?
