Blessed Is the One Who Reaches Down

mastak bhaag hovai Dhur likhi-aa taa satgur sayvaa laa-ay.
If such pre-ordained destiny is written upon one's forehead, then the True Guru enjoins him to serve Him.
naanak ratan javayhar paavai Dhan Dhan gurmat har paa-ay. ||4||1||
O Nanak, then he obtains the jewel, the gem; blessed, blessed is that one who follows the Guru's Teachings, and finds the Lord. ||4||1||

In plain words

If good fortune is written on your forehead from the very start, the True Guru sets you to serve.

Nanak says: then you find the jewel, the gem. Blessed, blessed is the one who follows the Guru's teaching and finds the One.

Blessed is the one who reaches down and takes the gift.
The deeper layer

Destiny “written from the beginning” is grace and readiness, not a fixed sentence handed down. Sayvaa (service) here means keeping the One at the center of your doing. Dhan dhan — blessed, blessed — is said twice, the way you repeat a word when plain speech isn’t enough.

A Question to Sit With

What good work makes you feel most like yourself?
