In plain words

Life of the whole world, my Master, breathe me back to life, and settle Your Naam deep inside my heart.

Nanak says: the Guru, the Guru, is perfect, lacking nothing. Meeting the True Guru, I meditate on the Naam.

The Name settled in the heart brings a person back to life.
The deeper layer

The seeker asks the Life of the world for new life, and the Name settles in the heart.

Mo ka-o jagjeevan jeevaal lai — O Life of the world, bring me back to life. It is a cry for renewal. Think of a plant drooping in the summer heat. A little water, and it stands up again. Rid antar naam vasaa-i-aa — settle the Name deep inside my heart.

Guroo guroo hai pooraa — the Guru is perfect, complete, lacking nothing. Meeting the Satgur, the True Guru, Nanak holds the Name close. The shabad ends where it began. New life comes through the Name, taken in and held.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel most alive and renewed?
