Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O One, the Guru has planted Your Naam, Har, Har, deep in my heart.

Turning to the Guru, I have heard Your story, and it delights my mind.

Blessed, blessed is my great good fortune.

Keep the Name close, the way you keep something precious right at your heart.
The deeper layer

Keep the Naam close, the way you keep a treasured necklace at your throat.

This is the rahaa-o, the pause line at the centre of the shabad. Kanth dhaaray means worn close at the throat, like a necklace. Kathaa sunee man bhaa-ee: hearing the telling, and being pleased by it — deep listening (suniai) that lands. Dhan dhan vad bhaag — blessed fortune, received as grace.

A Question to Sit With

What do you keep close because it means so much to you?
