Verse 4 of 5

No Enemies, Only Family

jo jo keeno ham tis kay daas.
Whoever You have created, I am his slave.
parabh mayray ko sagal nivaas.
My God dwells in all.
naa ko doot nahee bairaa-ee.
I have no enemies, no adversaries.
gal mil chaalay aikai bhaa-ee. ||3||
I walk arm in arm, like brothers, with all. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Everyone You have made, I am their servant.

My One lives in all.

I have no enemy, no one against me.

I walk arm in arm with everyone, like brothers.

If the One lives in everyone, then everyone is family and no one is an enemy.
The deeper layer

Prabh mayray ko sagal nivaas — my One dwells in all. From this comes the ethic: naa ko doot nahee bairaa-ee — no enemies, no adversaries; gal mil chaalay aikai bhaa-ee — walking arm in arm as one family. This is Ik Onkar lived out as kinship.

A Question to Sit With

How would you treat someone you disagreed with if you saw them as family?
