ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੀ ॥

This is what the saints have come to understand.
Through the word of the Perfect Guru, the light dawns.
Clarity comes through the teaching, deeply heard.
Clarity comes through the Guru's word: pargaas bha-i-aa pooray gur bachnee. What the saints understand is not private cleverness; it opens when the teaching is heard deeply (Suniai).
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad.
