Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, everything is reduced to dust. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The body, money, a husband or wife, and all the showing off: none of these last.
Fancy horses and elephants will pass away.
Power, fun and good looks are bright for a while, then gone.
Without the Naam, everything turns to dust.
The impressive things turn to dust; the Naam lasts.
Body, wealth, status, raaj rang roop (power, pleasure, beauty): all of it is jhooth, passing. Against all of it stands the Naam, not one more possession but the one thing that is sach, true and lasting.
